Together We Sail, Together We Change Lives
The Hannig Cup is a charity sailing regatta where the wind in our sails carries something greater than competition — it carries hope. For over two decades, sailors, philanthropists, and friends have gathered on San Francisco Bay to raise funds, raise awareness, and raise one another up.
What began in 2006 as a single Wednesday-night race at Redwood City's Sequoia Yacht Club — a friend's idea for a birthday gift that turned into a $25,000 gift to charity — has grown into a movement. The original "Give Something Back" race was meant to happen once. Twenty one years and one hundred-plus beneficiaries later, the Hannig Cup has become a beloved fixture of the charitable sailing calendar.

Every dollar moves forward. Crews raise funds for the charities closest to their hearts, while our ticketed events support the Sequoia Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program — putting the next generation on the water.
We sail for people, for the marine environment, and for one another. The Hannig Cup is, and always has been, one hundred percent volunteer-run. Every contribution reaches those it's meant to serve.
Since 2006, the Hannig Cup community has donated over $10 million to over 75 organizations — from our local hospital to helping evacuate pediatric cancer patients bombed in Ukraine, from battling Leukemia to Parkinson's, from helping local folks with Downs to overseas helping and always Floating Doctors and youth sailing. In launching heroonline.org we seek to protect the health of the Bay itself, marine environments and rain forests. We recognize all are interdependent for a good life.
Recently, Hannig Cup has begun collaborating with Hannig Sail It Forward Foundation to help increase and sustain its donations to charity.
The Foundation extends the Cup’s mission year-round, continuing to support selected charities and advocate for the most vulnerable — from people to the marine environment that sustains us all. Whether you race, dine, donate, or simply cheer from the dock, there is a place for you here.
